My Own Stages

A musical montage that glimpses into a simpler and more romantic past the singer is not so sure ever existed.

The sun is screaming through the blinds / refusing to be ignored / dust illuminated when tree shadows dance along the floor / and I remember I’m alive / and make a promise not to waste it / so I breath deep and close my eyes / and wonder how it was before

I dream of Italian families / clips from iconic movies / salt from the Mediterranean sea / dancing in the 1950’s / saying goodbye at the train station / is it better in my imagination?

I stop myself before I go and get my personal assistant / who has no feelings I should care for / and I can summon in a second / she sits there on the breakfast table / mocking me just like the birds / whispering “you cannot live without me” / that’s what I heard

I dream of horses grazing the grass / maybe the ghosts of a not so distant past / to spend my mornings in the library / the smell of books and English breakfast tea / birds have wings / people have pages / I sing on my own stages
